Have you heard the buzz around Johnson County about the new Indian Creek library in Olathe? Technically, it is very much a library. But, with meeting and study rooms, a teen gaming room, a recording studio, a maker space, a children’s outdoor reading garden, and more, it’s much more of a community center space.
The library has always been a happy place for me. I have many wonderful memories from my childhood, visiting the library with my mom and brothers, and checking out the maximum number of books allowed–ten. I would read them in a fury and return to check out ten more a couple weeks later. But the library of my childhood was a quiet place. We were reminded of the quiet rules each time before entering. This new library is not a quiet place. It’s a place for community, a place for families, a place for learning and exploring…and just hanging out. If you prefer a quiet library, then you’ll love the Quiet Reading Room with comfortable chairs and…quiet!
Our team was treated to a tour of the facility today, along with other Keller Williams agents, and we are excited to share all of the community features with our clients, friends, and family.
It opened in October, and just in time for the coming winter, when people need to get of their house and go where they can just hang out. Grab some Messenger coffee and a fresh bakery item at the Park Street Pastry Cafe, find a comfy chair to drag next to the fire, and let your kids loose in the children’s or teen’s area. Reserve a spot to make and create on the sewing machines, 3-D printers, or heat press in the Maker Space. Stop into the Friends of the Library Bookstore and take home some $2 books.
If you haven’t visited yet, we encourage you to do so soon! And it’s worth the drive if you live on the other side of the county. A family could easily spend half a Saturday here…and it’s mostly free! Check it out…maybe we’ll see you there!
